Nairobi — The Motorists Association of Kenya is against this week's increases in petrol pump prices.
The prices of fuel have gone up by an average of Sh2 per litre compared to last week's prices.
Speaking to The Standard, the association's chairman, Mr Peter Murima said if the global prices were to determine the local prices, it should be reflected in the local pumps when the prices come down.
The lobby group chairman asked Energy minister, Mr Kiraitu Murungi, to control prices so as to protect Kenyans from exploitation.
The Petroleum Institute of East Africa Managing Director, Mr George Wachira, said in most cases, price increase are a direct impact on of the global increases to the price and may not necessarily have any impact on the markers margins.
The manager said that nothing could be done about the increases as these changes are a reflection of what is happening globally.
"Kenya is impacted like any other country that does not have it own oil," he said.
Wachira said other industries will have to bear the unavoidable increased costs of energy, and eventually inflation effects in many areas that use oil energy shall be noticed.
