Angola: President Dos Santos Pleased With Visit to Cuba

Havana — The President of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos said Saturday, in Havana, that he is pleased with the visit he paid since Thursday to Cuba, in which ten accords of cooperation and memorandum of understanding were signed with view to reinforce economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The Angolan Statesman was speaking to the pres during the visit he paid to the Havana Colonial historic-cultural site and to the House of Africa, in which about 3,000 artefacts of African countries are being exhibited, from which 100 are from Angola.

To the Head of State, the visit to Cuba was a starting point for a route that will continue. "We have set up accords and memorandums of understandings in various areas of the government activities, sporting, economic and scientific cultural, and we will work together for the wellbeing of our peoples", he stated.

He affirmed that the meeting with the Vice President of the Council of State of the Cuban government, Raul Castro Ruz, held Friday was fraternal and open for cooperation, admitting that there are still issues to be discussed.

The memorandums were signed Friday at the Revolution Palace, and attended by the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, by the Vice President of the Council of State and of Cuban government, Raul Castro Ruz.

Foreign Affairs ministers of Angola, João Miranda, and of Cuba, Filipe Perez Roque, signed the "Complementary cooperation protocol to the convention of collaboration, which updates the juridical marks, signed on 29 July 1976.

They also signed the cooperation accords on public works, energy, higher education and training of staffs and the memorandums of understanding on health, literacy, hotels and tourism and in the fields of sports and physical education.

The accords assumed by the sides are part of the memorandums that foreseen the training of cadres, and show the goals and deadlines for the implementation of cooperation programmes.
