Eritrea: Justice Can Only Emanate From Resilience

22 September 2007

editorial

Asmara — Although striving for peace and justice demands a lot of time and much experience, there is no other party than the people of Eritrea which had amply demonstrated that resounding victory and indeed glory can be achieved.

Besides, its fruit is delicious so long as the endeavor is on the right track and compromise is not entertained. If there is one gloving fact we proved during the course of over half a century of political and armed struggle, justice can only be achieved by holding steadfast to the cause and not merely voicing songs of hope and expectation. This fact proven in deeds has indeed become our driving force in the national development drive. As a matter of fact, if a society forgets the most important junctures in its history, let alone to stand firm, its continuity as a nation would also be in doubt. The history that enabled the people of Eritrea to tread on the path of victory is, therefore, the history of patience and resilience. If people would wonder what would have happened to Eritrea if its people had not fought hard, if they had not been resilient and not held to their mission with determination, they would really understand the intrinsic meaning and value of the aforementioned fundamental factors of victory.

The very fact that we proved practically can never be altered under any circumstances. The most valuable and most important thing is that based on persistent effort. Peace and justice, which we uphold more than anything else, also demands such endeavors. Thus, the only price we need to pay for achieving peace and justice is resilience in purpose and patience to promote the set goals. We cannot achieve the intended goal we strive to achieve without proving in deeds the factors mentioned above. Looking for a shortcut to achieve one's goal is an option picked by cowards, and leads to utter failure in the end. Our magnificent history was not thus made through shortcuts and escapades.

In view of that, achieving outstanding and real victory by challenging and confronting every ordeal that we face is no doubt our only option. It is indeed an option of courage and victory. For that reason, we need to face momentary challenges, endure hardships and shortcomings, add momentum to our patience and look ahead for justice founded on our resilience so as to emerge victorious. This is the only way to build a strong and prosperous nation.
