Monrovia — Liberian Muslims have been called upon to put the past behind and unite as they observe the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking Tuesday to reporters, the Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Alhaji Abraham Fomba Sheriff, said Muslims in Liberia must come together under one organization for peace, unity and reconciliation.

Alhaji Sheriff indicated that Liberia is one country so Muslims must unite to help the Unity Party-led government to bring peace in the country. "No matter what, Islam is here to stay and if Islam is to stay here, Muslims must at all cost be united".

He said as Muslims around the world fast and pray in observance of Ramadan, Liberian Muslims should pray for the people of Liberia, the country and the good leadership of President Johnson-Sirleaf, who is leading the country to noble destiny.

Alhaji Sheriff said whether Christians or Muslims, Liberians are one people who have co-existed since 1847. He called on Muslims to use unity as a tool to move the National Muslim Council forward and Islam as a means of forging ahead with one objective for the betterment of members of the faith.

He stressed among other things that the 12-member committee recently set up by both parties to look into the leadership rift of the Council are working assiduously and would soon reach an amicable solution to unite all Muslims in Liberia.

Meanwhile, Alhaji sheriff said he and Sheik Kafumba Konneh are committed and determine to create unified National Muslim Council of Liberia before the end of the Holy Ramadan.
