Thies, Senegal — Nigeria's female national basketball team the Lady Tigers will return to action this evening at 9pm Nigerian time in Thies, Senegal after a day of rest for all teams in both Dakar and Thies yesterday.

By Sunday all teams had played three matches each in the competition featuring 12 African countries.

And as the teams return to action the Nigerian ladies will playing desperately to keep winning after dropping a game to Angola on Saturday. The result has left Nigeria behind the Southern Africans while former African champions the Congolese are third in Group B.

In Group A playing in Dakar lead after they used both court and off court rules and politics to win over the Tunisian ladies who could have taken the match by performance in the absence of 'home advantage.'

The Lady Tigers are facing their opponents from Cape Verde in the match this afternoon. The Nigerians are rated above the Cape Verdeans but their men who had the same status against the Nigerian men in Angola created the biggest upset of the men's competition.

If the ladies perform like their men it will also go down as the biggest upset of the tournament here.

The Nigerian ladies trained yesterday morning with a light workout in the evening. They had to fight extra hard to beat Congo DR 59-56 on Sunday to remain in contention for a semi final spot. They started last Friday by beating Cameroon 61-35 before the loss to Angola at 53-42.

But while Nigeria play Cape Verde, the star match of the day is that between Angola and Congo. A win for Congo will tie the two with Nigeria and a head to head check will produce the best two for the next stage while a win for Angola automatically gives them top spot with Nigeria in second.
