A spokesman of the Sudanese government in the Ministry of Information, Dr. Samson Kwaje, lauded Eritrea's efforts in promoting peace in East Africa. He made remarks to this effect in a meeting with Mr. Alem Negash, senior Eritrean diplomat in South Sudan. He also spoke highly of the outcome of the Somali Congress on Liberation and Reconstitution in Asmara.

Dr. Samson Kwaje went on to say that the agreement reached between the Sudanese Government of National Unity and the East Sudan Front in October 2006 under the care of the Eritrean Government and that of January 2005 between the Sudanese Government and the SPLM attest to Eritrea's genuine endeavors to settle issues on the basis of understanding and not war.

The spokesman further underlined that the efforts being exerted by the Government of Eritrea to promote peaceful solutions to the Darfur issue is a continuation of the aforementioned acts, and this certainly deserves the support of the international community and the African Union.

In connection with the current visit of an Eritrean cultural troupe to South Sudan, Dr. Samson Kwaje noted cultural exchange of this nature is of paramount significance in strengthening the bond between the people of Eritrea and the Sudan.
