Nigeria: Lagos Top Schools Go for World Class ICT

Lagos — Leading schools in Lagos State and its environs have taken giant steps in implementing world class ICT training in their curriculum in line with Federal Government reform agenda for the education sector to produce students with professional skills enough to compete with their counterparts all over the world.

These Schools are Jelly-Las Groups of schools (Agege), Doregos Academy (Ipaja), Queens Land Academy (Okota), Ambassadors Schools (Otta), Sound hope Academy (Ipaja), Bethany Hope Hall (Omole), Oxbridge Int'l (Ikeja), Legacy High School (Egbeda Akowonjo), Isolog College (Ojodu & Alagbole).

They have partnered with New Horizons Nigeria, the leading ICT training institutions with a goal to empowering their students with necessary ICT skills.

The students are being trained to become software developers, web masters, network engineers and Microsoft specialists, among others, by the time they have spent six years in the program.

According to Mr Tim Akano, MD/CEO of the company, students will acquire international certifications such as Microsoft Office User Specialist Examination, CompTIA A+, Certified Web Master (CIWM) by the time they get to S.S.S 3 Class. Indeed this program will make products of these schools standout with innovative ideas that will give birth to products and services thereby replicating the feat of Steve Jobs of Apple Systems, Richard Bradson, Bill Gates of Microsoft Inc, and Google Guys (Sagin and Larry).

He also affirmed that the program will enable students cope with first class education in Europe and America where technology is the backbone of the economy. So Far, the partnership has provided each School with a well equipped standard Laboratory, which had given the student the opportunity to acquire practical technological skills that global ICT entails such availing the students internships in technology driven companies, Data Management companies, Web services among others.

However, he added that the student will also be exposed to emerging technologies via Excursions to Hi-Tech Companies such that will help them get first hand information and will expose them to different facet of technology(ICT) like Wireless Telephony,e-Payment,Broadband thereby encouraging them to pursue a career in ICT.

Earliar this year students of Isolog ,Queensland,Legacy and others visit RELTEL WIRELESS for firsthand experience of CDMA technology and how these professionals perform most of the high-end services of mobile telecommunication..

Through this partnership initiative in line with the Federal Government ICT empowerment agenda, there is bound to be rapid development in the country.
