Cape Town — Table View residents will be pleased to hear that the newly extended Table View Library has been reopened.
"As early as 1999 we recognised the need for a bigger library, but due to capital budget constraints, we were unable to extend the library until now," says Principal Librarian, Linda Barnard. The library, she said has been increased in size by 60 percent, which allows us to house additional book stock to cater for the varying needs of our community.
The new library includes several upgrades and improvements.
The adult area has been separated from the children's area, allowing for tables in the children's area for project work, as well as a separate reference area for research in the adult section. To minimise disturbance, a separate area for periodicals has been provided, at some distance from them. The entrance foyer has a seating area for patrons waiting to be collected from the library, and ample space has been provided for learners to store their school bags.
A larger issue desk equipped with four computer terminals instead of the previous three will enable the library to provide a more efficient service to patrons returning and taking out library material. SmartCape and the Business Corner are also housed in a designated area, separate from the rest of the library collection.
"We would like to thank the community of Table View for their patience during our renovations, which took much longer than any of us expected.
"Although we lost some personnel during the interim period we have been able to replace them and will reopen with eight experienced staff members ready to serve the community," Ms Barnard said.
Library hours are from 10am to 6pm on Monday to Thursday, from 10am to 5pm on a Friday, and from 9am to 12.30pm on a Saturday.
