28 September 2007

Monrovia — Several persons especially traders are said to be stranded at the Liberian and Guinean border point in Ganta, Nimba County as a result of flood.

For the last four days, flood- water had taken over the crossing point between the two countries thus making it impossible for anyone to cross from either side.

The prevailing situation has caused many persons especially business people to be stranded at the border crossing point with their goods.

According to the Head of Customs in the area, Madam Victoria Brown, she told our correspondent that, as a result of the flood, normal revenue collection in the area has virtually come to a stand still for the last few days.

She told this paper that the flood- water has taken over the entire guard post, making it difficult for any transaction in the area. As a result of the situation, the border is temporarily closed due to the heavy down pour of rain in the area. The capital city of the county, Sanniquillie, has also been cut off from the rest of the county. Motorists have been finding impossible to use the route from Ganta to Sanniquillie due to the deplorable road condition.

According to our correspondent, the Liberian border point with Guinea in Ganta City has seven sub ports of entries stretching over the St. John River and reports gathered by our reporter from a lady on the Guinean side of the border identified as Yei Dahn, Guinean authorities are presently evacuating citizens from the border areas close to Ganta.

Meanwhile several vehicles have been forced to pack along the borders of the two countries due to the flood.
