Angola: Parliament Speaker Receives Malian Ombudsperson

28 September 2007

Luanda — Audience of the National Assembly speaker to the Malian ombudswoman

The speaker of the National Assembly of Angola, Roberto de Almeida Friday received in an audience the ombudswoman of Mali, Fatoumatha Diakité Ndiaye, with whom he exchanged brief impressions about the institutionalised ombuds system in both countries.

"The ombudsperson department of Angola is of the parliamentary type, whilst the Malian is executive", explained Fatoumatha, to whom it was very useful knowing, at this level, the Angolan experience on the institutionalisation of mechanisms granting the rights and freedom of citizens against actions of the public authority.

The visiting official, who was accompanied to the audience by her Angolan counterpart, Paulo Tchipilica, thanked for the support that Angolan authorities have been grating to Malian residents in Angola, stressed the need for the bilateral cooperation reinforcement.

Founded in 2005, the ombudsperson department of Angola is an independent organ in charge of defending the rights, freedoms and assurances of citizens, guaranteeing, through informal means, justice and legality of the Public Administration.
