Eritrea: President Conducts Inspection Tour of Development Projects in Southern Region

Asmara — President Isaias Afwerki conducted a three-day tour of inspection of development projects in the agricultural, infrastructure and social sectors in the southern region. He also met with representatives of the people in the region.

In the course of his inspection of farmlands accompanied by various heads and experts in the agricultural domain, the President was informed that about 10 thousand hectares of wheat for flour, 900 hectares for groundnuts and over 500 hectares of sorghum for beer were grown this year and are in satisfactory condition. He also visited the newly constructed Warsai micro-dam and that of Digsa and Sememo.

President Isaias received briefings by the concerned bodies on the role played by the people and members of the Warsai-Yikaalo Development Campaign, as well as the Segen and Biddho construction companies respectively in the implementation of development programs.

Following inspection of the Mai-mine-Megerba-Oubel road, the Areza-Adi-gulti road, the Mai-tsebri bridge and the Demihina-Karibosa road, the President commended the work accomplished.

Regarding social services, he inspected community hospitals under construction at a cost of Nfa. 24 million in Fikya-Chekemte area in Adiquala Sub-region, and the semi-urban town of Maiayni aimed at providing equitable social services. President Isaias held discussions with experts on ways of further boosting agricultural yield in the plains of Hazemo and Megerba.

In meeting with members of the representatives of the people following an inspection tour of 12 Sub-regions of the Southern region, the President met with the representatives of the people and administrators in the Adi-keih town. In the meeting he pointed out that the programs implemented so far as part of efforts to achieve food security are encouraging though there should be no complacency.

President Isaias stressed the need to exert more coordinated efforts on the part of the public, Defense Force members and the regional administration, as well as Segen and Biddho construction companies. Moreover, the President heard views and opinions of the people and pledged that close attention would be given to their views.
