Sokoto — State Programme Adviser, United Nations Population Fund UNFPA has disclosed that the state Ministry of Education has developed a Curriculum in the area of fighting and curtailing the menace of HIV/AIDS pandemic.
He explained that the new Curriculum is being successfully implemented in all the Secondary schools across the twenty three local government councils in the state.Yakubu made this known to newsmen in Sokoto, during a 2-day workshop for the Principals of the thirty Pilot Secondary Schools of the UNFPA-assisted Schools health education project organised by the fund. The workshop , he explained , is aimed at sensitizing the Principals on the pre-requisites of the project . According to him, the state had been ranked as the best in the implementation of the project nation wide and maintained that the principals have ensured consistency in the project . " The state has now become a reference point for all the states of the federation in terms of the implementation of the UNFPA-assisted schools health education project and we have witnessed progress", he said.
Speaking at the event , the state Commissioner of Education , Alhaji Arzika Tureta assured that the state government would continue to collaborate with the UN Population Fund as well as other development agencies on all issues that will be beneficial to the people.
The state Co-ordinator UNFPA-assisted schools health education project, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa said it will continue to partner with the state government on all aspects of societal development .In her remarks , the state's President of the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) , Hajiya Asma'u Adullahi commended the donor agency for sponsoring the project and its activities in the state . According to Hajiya Asmau, the programme has no doubt created awareness in the state and assured that pilot schools will remain committed towards the effective implementation of the schools health education project.
