Eritrea: Minister Osman Conducts Seminar With Eritreans in New York

2 October 2007

Asmara — Foreign Minister Osman Saleh conducted a seminar to Eritreans residing in New York City and its environs. The seminar focused on the objective situation in the Homeland and the region, national economic development processes, human resource development, the institution management program, the role of the people in combating hostilities and reinforcing national unity, as well as the TPLF regime's attempts, with the support of the US, to pose obstacles to the border demarcation process.

Noting that the Eritrea-Ethiopia border issue could only be resolved through implementing the Boundary Commission's ruling and nothing else, Mr. Osman pointed out that the US Administration's unjustified acts to serve its interests through hiring servants at the expense of the Eritrean people is being challenged, exposed through the popular struggle, and that the task of safeguarding the nation's sovereignty remains a supreme objective.

In the domain of diplomacy, the Minister indicated that the decisive role Eritrea is playing in promoting comprehensive peace and stability in Somalia and the Sudan has gained the support of a number of countries. He further stated that Eritrea has established strong relations with the countries of the Middle East, Asia and other parts of the world in the economic, investment and human resource development spheres.

Pointing out that the nation's top priority programs are based on infrastructure works, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, institution management, capacity building, and human resource development, Mr. Osman Saleh explained that vigorous efforts are being exerted towards achieving food security. He assured that the desired economic development goals would be realized in a short period through overcoming temporary problems. To this end, he called on all citizens to meet any challenges and to unite their ranks.

The participants of the seminar expressed readiness to fulfill what is expected of them.
