Kampala — UGANDA cricket could go a step further if Africa regional development manager Cassim Suliman's wish of seeing them join the One Day International status pays off.
After a one day visit, which climaxed with a meeting of administrators, sponsors and visiting the different cricket facilities in the country, Suliman was awed by Uganda's input in the development of the sport. He saw no reason as to why the country is not included in the ODI status.
"You have good facilities, development programmes and administration. I see no reason why we do not have more countries out there," said Suliman before his departure on Monday.
Suliman who had a chat with top sports administrators, including National Council of Sports board chairman Anthony Katamba, was in the country to assess the status of Uganda's game both technical and administrative. The local cricket association had asked for the upgrading of most of their facilities.
"I will try to see that within 180 days, three more countries get one day international status," Suliman promised.
Only South Africa and Zimbabwe are playing test cricket. Kenya is on and off in the one day status while Namibia and Uganda have been promising.
