As part of activities marking the 47th independence anniversary celebrations, wife of the president, Hajiya Turai Yar'Adua performed a one-day working visit to Abuja Children's Home Karu and the Asokoro General Hospital in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Monday.

The first lady, who donated assorted gift items which included toiletries and foodstuff to the Child Care Trust and patients at Asokoro General Hospital reiterated that emphasis should be given to the less privileged in the society.

She called on public-spirited individuals to have passion for the wards by extending love and affection to them through charity and philantrophic gestures, and wished Nigerians a happy independence celebration.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the AMAC chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo extended the warm greetings of the people of the area council as he embarked upon the one-day working visit to Karu Children's Home and Asokoro General Hospital.

Hon. Jisalo also assured the first lady of their support to the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the country strives towards being one of the top 20 developed countries of the world by year 2020.

He said the working visit will strengthen their cordial relationship, adding that "it is also a pointer for more opportunities to our women, children and youths in rural areas of Abuja Municipal Area Council".
