Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, has condoled families of the seven Nigerian soldiers who were killed by rebels while serving as part of the African Union (AU)/ United Nations (UN) forces in Darfur, Sudan.
In a statement signed by Josephine Lohor, media assistant to the minister, Modibbo paid this special tribute to the fallen heroes when he in company of the Minister of State, Defence, Mrs. Felicia Akuabata Njeze, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Andrew Azazi and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Luka Yusuf received the corpses of the seven Nigerian soldiers killed in Darfur, Sudan at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
Dr. Umar, who prayed for the souls of the dead soldiers, also enjoined the families of the deceased to take solace in the fact that the soldiers died in the line of duty in a peace keeping operation for that matter.
The minister while assuring the bereaved families reiterated that "the dead Nigerian soldiers and others from other countries who were killed did not die in vain. They died while on active duty serving and representing not only their fatherland but the African continent".
