Asmara — International Teachers' Day was marked today in Eritrea. Speaking at the Teachers Club here in the capital, the Minister of Education, Mr. Semere Russom, underlined the significance of education in national development and stated that the loopholes sometimes witnessed would be addressed. He indicated that efforts are being made towards ensuring quality education. Mr. Semere further noted that the Eritrean Teachers Association is expected to play a major role in putting into effect the educational strategy mapped out.
The Chairman of the Teachers Association, Mr. Tsehaye Tsegai, on his part stressed the need for training programs so as to nurture competent teachers and create a conducive platform for them to effectively discharge their duties.
In connection with the event, the Secretary General of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW), Mr. Tekeste Baire, and the Chairman of the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS), Mr. Sultan Saeed, respectively conveyed messages of solidarity.
International Teachers' Day has been marked in Eritrea for the 11th time.
