Liberia: Senate Ends Second Session

Monrovia — The second session of the Liberian senate has ended in Monrovia, with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf renewing her government's commitment to fight corruption, which she acknowledged remains a major challenge for government. Defending measures being adopted to tackle corruption, the President said any draft law on corruption presented to the Liberian Senate is not targeted at any particular group, but rather aimed at ending impunity in the country.

The President, according to an Executive Mansion release, spoke on Friday at the Capitol Building, when served as keynote speaker at a program marking the official closure of the second session of the Liberian Senate. The Liberian leader thanked the Senate for the spirit of cooperation which the Executive has enjoyed.
