Angola: New Military Rank Insignias in Use as from Tuesday

9 October 2007

Luanda — New rank insignias of the three branches of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), in replacement of the current ones, will be in use as from this Tuesday, in the framework of the re-edification of the FAA, ANGOP has learnt.

Each branch of the FAA will use rank insignias whose colour is similar to that of their respective uniforms, and only the Chief of Staff's insignia will be red, contrary to the current one.

Thus, general officers, as well as senior and junior officers, will wear, respectively, rank insignias with the colours green (Army), blue (Air Force) and black (Navy).

Meanwhile, the FAA are commemorating this Tuesday, their 16th anniversary, since the creation of a unified single armed forces.

The main ceremony will take place in the Naval Base of the Angolan Navy, in Soyo City, northern Zaire Province.

The 09 October date was instituted as FAA's anniversary, because it was on that date that in 1991 were taken the first steps in the creation of the single national armed forces, in the ambit of the Bicesse peace accords, signed in Portugal, between the Angolan government and the representatives of UNITA.

The FAA resulted from the fusion between the former governmental forces (FAPLA) and the extinct UNITA army (FALA).
