Ethiopia: Burundi President Appoints Mussie As Honorary Ambassador

Ethiopian peace activist Mussie Hailu was last week appointed as the Honorary Ambassador at large of the Republic Burundi, the country's embassy in Addis Ababa announced on Monday.
The President of The Republic of Burundi, Pierre NKURUNZIZA officially appointed Honorable Mussie Hailu to promote the peace, national reconciliation and development process of Burundi through out the world, the embassy said in a statement.
Mussie is also an advocate for global cooperation, world citizenship, securing global peace and constructive dialogue among nations and different religions and faith groups," The President in his official letter of appointment the President also called on all member States of African Union, the United Nations and friends of Burundi to collaborate with Ambassador Mussie Hailu on this mission which the President trusted upon him, according to the statement.
The statement indicated that the honor which it said was personally bestowed by the President of the Republic of Burundi, is in appreciation and acknowledgment of the "tireless effort and engagement of Honorable Mussie Hailu in building a culture of peace, reconciliation, interfaith harmony, constructive dialogue, global partnership, building the positive image of Africa in the world and for being with the people of Burundi and working with the President during the hard time in lobbying and promoting the noble cause to bring peace, unity, democracy, good governance, national reconciliation and freedom to the people of Burundi." The official appointment letter was handed to Ambassador Mussie on October 1st , 2007 in the office of the President in Bujumbura, Burundi, according to the statement.
Hailu also was appointed exiled King of Rwanda as his special emissary and to head the establishment of the Council of African Royal Society and Traditional Rulers for Peace, Development and Reconciliation in Africa.
Mussie was also appointed as the king's representative in Africa.

Mussie Hailu is peace activist working hard in promoting interfaith harmony and the golden rule through out the world, Burundi's cycle of ethnic violence pitting Hutu rebels against the Tutsi elite began in 1993, killing an estimated 300,000 people. After a broadly successful peace process, the Hutu The Forces for National Liberation (FNL) insurgency is regarded as the final barrier for lasting stability in the coffee-growing nation of 8 million.
