The spokesman of the Frodebu party, Mr. Pancrace Cimpaye, is free to move about as he pleases. The Presidency of the Republic made this decision on 6 October. Mr. Cimpaye had been in hiding since 22 August 2007 when the police failed to arrest him at his residence. The General Prosecutor of the mayorship of Bujumbura ordered this attempted arrest. Mr Cimpaye was accused of unjustly criticizing the Head of State whom he accused of "being behind attacks" that targeted various opposition dignitaries simultaneously in the commune of Gihosha.

This arrest coincided with the resumption of talks between the Head of State and Frodebu aimed at resolving the institutional stalemate that has paralyzed the national assembly. The spokesman of Frodebu indicates that this freedom of movement is consecutive to deals between the Head of State and the Sahwanya-Frodebu political party." The relationships between these two institutions after these deals tends to renormalize," he added.

The President of the Republic has decided to free the spokesman of Frodebu after the national assembly decided that MPs Basabose Mathias and Léonard Nyangoma should be reinstated. These two gestures are intended to improve the relationship between the government and opposition parties which had turned sour after some former dignitaries were arrested and imprisoned under false allegations that they were plotting against the head of state a year ago.
