Angola: Mining Sector Contributes to Development

Luanda — The minister of Geology and Mining, Manuel Africano, on Monday here said the mining sector is going a through a moment of gradual growth, meant to become an important tool in the country's social and economic development.

Speaking at the first seminar on the mining sector designed for Angolan journalists, he said that with the achievement of peace in 2002, currently the research and prospecting of mineral resources have been extended to far away areas of the country.

According to Manuel Africano, with peace and political stability it is already possible to make a geological/mineral study of the Angolan potential, a fact that will enable to diversify the mining activity to other sub-sectors.

Despite the need for dynamic in the diamonds sub-sector, the minister defended that is necessary to re-launch activities ornamental rocks, building materials of mineral origin, sands and others, as the country is in a stage of reconstruction of its infrastructures.

The one-day gathering had as goal to provide participants with technical knowledge on mining activity.
