Luanda — The general commander of the National Police, general commissioner Ambrósio de Lemos affirmed Wednesday here that the new policing method implemented by the corporation answers the worries of the population, for the reduction of crime rates.
"This method is based on the relations between the police and the community, which are each time stronger, enabling the sharing of information and counting on the assistance, cooperation and collaboration of the population in preventing and fighting crimes", stressed the top officer.
This was affirmed during the closing ceremony of the first basic course of public security for journalists, promoted by the National Police's provincial command of Luanda.
According to Ambrósio de Lemos, the corporation is being equipped with sophisticated techniques, in the framework of the renewal, prevention and combat to crime as a result of population growth, which demands efforts of the police so as to face the current challenges.
In this aspect, the general commissioner highlighted the contribution of media organs in the work of informing and educating the population on their rights and goals, foreseeing the respect and freedom of their convictions.
For three days, 25 journalists of public and private organs attended the basic course of public security, held at the Operational Unit of Luanda, under the guidance of security experts of the corporation.
Topics such as "The Angolan police organisation", "The police as an institution", "community policing", "Functioning of the justice system", "Fundamental rights linked to police performance", among others, were part of the upgrading course's agenda. The course aimed at upgrading journalists on the treatment of issues relating to public security, as from the knowledge about technical-commercial, legal, functional and organisational aspects of the corporation's performance.
