Nigeria: Taraba Tops Neco Exam Malpractice Chart

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2007 June/July Senior School Certificate Examination results, with Taraba State having the highest cases of malpractice.

The Registrar and chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Promise Okpala disclosed this in Minna on Wednesday while announcing the official release of the results. Okpala explained that Taraba State had 19,727 reported cases of examination malpractice while Yobe State had the lowest reported cases of 248.

He further added that Niger State had 30,765 reported cases, Enugu 23,523 reported cases and Adamawa 11,687 reported cases. According to him, a total of 322,257 reported cases of examination malpractice were recorded in the examination. The registrar disclosed that the results of the affected candidates were withheld pending the conclusion of the investigation on the issue. Okpala said out of the over one million candidates that sat for the examination, 987,395 full results of the candidates have been released. He stated that 28,133 of the registered candidates failed to turn-up for the examination while 33 physically challenged persons sat for the examination.

On the performance of the candidates, the Registrar disclosed that 2,083 candidates had distinction in English, 300 in literature, 570 in physics, 428 in chemistry, 1,216 in Biology, 715 in Economics and 612 in Government. Okpala Further stated that 201, 753 of the candidates failed in English, 33, 174 in Literature, 57,539 in physics, 61 019 in chemistry, 195,169 in Biology, 151,458 in Economics and 89,484 in Government. He assured the staff of loan, over sea training, regular promotion among other welfare schemes.
