Eritrea: Eid Al-Fetir Colorfully Celebrated Nationwide

Eid Al-Fetir, marking the end of the Feast of Ramadan, was today celebrated nationwide in a colorful manner.
In the celebrations at Bahti Meskerem Square here in the capital, in which tens of thousands of followers of the Islamic Faith took part, prayers headed by Sheik Salim Ibrahim Al-Muktar, Director of the Office of the Eritrean Mufti, were conducted.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheik Salim outlined the significance of the religious event and called on all the faithful to extend a helping hand to needy compatriots and to enhance mutual cooperation. He further noted the need to visit families of fallen heroes and orphans, as well as sympathize with the disabled and sick.
Also in a subsequent ceremony held at the Awkaf Hall, Sheik Al-Amin Osman Al-Amin, the Eritrean Mufti, conveyed a religious message regarding the historical origin of Eid Al-Fetir. He further commended members of the Defense Force currently engaged in harvesting the crops of the families of martyrs and participating in different development activities. The Eritrean Mufti also wished success to all those engaged in safeguarding the nation's sovereignty and in development programs. Moreover, Sheik Al-Amin Osman Al-Amin wished the faithful a happy Eid Al-Fetir, as well as peace and prosperity to the people and Government of Eritrea.
Ministers, government and PFDJ officials, diplomats and invited guests also attended the celebrations.
Meanwhile, in the celebrations of Eid Al-Fetir held at a national level, which was conducted in the Hagaz semi-urban center, Anseba region, regional administrators, army commanders, religious leaders and nationals from different areas of the sub-zone, as well as invited guests took part. Live coverage of the celebrations in Hagaz was transmitted via ERI-TV and Dimtsi Hafash.
In a speech he delivered on the occasion, Mr. Gebrehannes Woldegergish, chairman of the holidays coordinating committee of the Anseba region, said that religious holidays in Eritrea not only symbolize national unity but also play a major role in strengthening and conserving values and diversity.

He further underscored that the religious celebrations remind us of our responsibility to live up to national obligations.
