People living with HIV/AIDS, may now have cause to smile, only if they can adhere strictly to the advise on egg consumption, following a medical signal that eggs could extend their life span.

The cheering secret was made known weekend in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital at a press conference held by the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PANOG) at its Ita-Eko headquarters preparatory for the poultry show tagged "Abeokuta 2007"

Speaking at the briefing, Dr Adegoke Adelufori said having established the fact that eggs contain essential vitamins, protein and fat, it would protect immunity fall or failure of infected HIV/AIDS patients.

The medical expert, therefore advised patients to ensure regular in-take and consumption of eggs, just as he noted that it is cheaper and affordable. He further said that it also prevents heart diseases.

"Since egg boosts immunity, it provides adequate protein and builds body cell. It is also a cheap means and perfect meal for people", the doctor emphasised, but however, for family with stroke history, the physician cautioned that they should limit egg consumption to two per week.

Earlier in his speech, the association chairman, Mr Jide Olaniyan, called on the state government not to contract supply of eggs to schools, which is part of its educational policy.

The association said this caution and warning became necessary, so that the laudable policy would not be politicised, and for it to have meaningful impact on the pupils and the state.

It would be recalled that, Ogun State Government recently proposed daily free one egg per pupil in its primary institutions, having being established that egg in-take makes children healthy and intelligent.

Accompanied by the association secretary, Gboyega Arowona, the chairman posited that it would be better for government to partner with the association for the project, stressing that "the association{PANOG} is ready to supply egg for school children, don't give the supply to contractors, let us execute it together."

Speaking further, Olaniyan who boasted that Ogun State is the poultry basket of the country, affirmed that the association has more than enough quality eggs to supply, even at reduced price, contrary to contractors who would want to feed fat on the project.

"With most of the country's poultry business concentrated in the state, our state, Ogun State have over the years earned a reputation as the poultry basket of Nigeria" the chairman stated.
