Monrovia — Liberia's vice president Joseph Boakai last Saturday told a gathering at the Unity Party (UP) headquarters that the UP-led government cannot provide jobs for all Liberians.

Speaking at the graduation exercise of the party's sponsored computer training program, Vice President Boakai said, "Unity Party did not necessarily come to power to provide jobs for the whole country."

However, he maintained that the UP government came to power to provide quality leadership.

He disclosed that there were lots of misunderstanding in Liberia when people vote for a party that wins elections.

He said some of them (voters) can be frustrated over jobs allocation and provision.

Vice President Boakai noted, "but we are pleased for some of you who understand and know the difficulty that this country is going through."

Ambassador Boakai indicated that the party came to power to create opportunity and restore lasting peace that Liberians have yearned for.

He disclosed that the UP-led government was making strides in its reform agenda, which include security sector reform, the forestry reform and the construction of streets.

But he observed that the government's reform agenda may not matter to people adding, "all that they will say is the price of rice and gasoline are high; yes, it is true, but I can tell you that there is no way that all of these can fall in place without a reform agenda being put in order."

He disclosed that the government was making impact because, according to him, it was gaining some recognition.

The Vice President also disclosed that the government was concentrating on providing micro-credit loan for Liberian women.

He noted that the government intends to empower women throughout the country.

He wants people to have access to capital to get involved in small businesses.

Several partisans representing all counties graduated from the party's sponsored computer training program.

The training was initiated by UP National Chairman Charles Clarke.

Dr. Clarke lauded the Chinese Embassy for providing some computers, printers and photocopiers for the program.

He assured that the party would continue to mold the minds of its members.

Representative of the graduates lauded the party for its vision and pleaded with its executives to expand the program to enable more UP partisans enroll during its next circle.

The graduates also want the party provide them with jobs.
