Uganda: Entebbe Set Painting Deadline

Kampala — AS the clean-up exercise ahead of CHOGM intensifies, Entebbe Municipality set yesterday as the deadline for painting premises.

The Mayor of Entebbe, Stephen Kabuye, said road construction had prevented many residents from painting because of the dust, but since most of the roads are nearing completion, everyone was expected to obey.

He was speaking during the clean-up exercise of the municipality. He warned the business community, who were asked to use cream paint for uniformity against failure to comply with the directive, saying their premises would be locked up. Kabuye also appealed to government officials to paint their offices.

The cleaning committee comprised Kabuye, councillors and municipal staff. A band led the group which started the cleaning from Kigungu landing site to the town.

They cleaned trenches, slashed over-grown grass, swept and burnt garbage around Kitoro trading centre and Entebbe Central Market.

Kabuye complained about the low turn-up, citing the business community for failing to take part in the exercise. He addressed residents at Entebbe Works Ground, hailing the first lady, Janet Museveni, for the vision of Entebbe-Kampala beautification. Kabuye advised market vendors to maintain cleanliness even after CHOGM.
