Kampala — A law stopping the importation and manufacturing of counterfeit and sub-standard products should be enacted, the Private Sector Foundation's (PSFU) chairman, James Mulwana, has suggested.
Mulwana told MPs on the select committee for CHOGM that counterfeit and sub-standard goods were not good for the economy.
"I request Parliament to enact a law on these products. We have been requesting for it over and over again. They should be stopped."
Mulwana also said Parliament should encourage the use of locally-made products.
"You should be the first people to use locally manufactured goods but look at your pens, books, almost everything is imported," he said while pointing at the pens the legislators were holding.
Mulwana was appearing before the committee to brief members about the progress of the Commonwealth Business Forum due to take place next month.
He informed the MPs that so far about 1,000 delegates had confirmed participation.
Mulwana said most of the motions and laws passed were not helping the business community.
