Senate President David Mark yesterday described President Umaru Yar'Adua's administration as legitimate.

Speaking when he received the report on the 2007 general elections from INEC Chairman Maurice Iwu, Mark said that the elections were free and fair and also commended INEC for doing a good job.

Mark said that the election marked a major milestone in Nigeria's political history, noting that it was the first time that the country transited from one democratic government to another.

The Senate President urged politicians to learn to accept election results in good faith, saying that there would always be a loser and a winner in any contest.

"INEC has the sole authority to write the official report on the election and not any foreign media," he said.

Earlier, Iwu had said that the report contained the history of people who had shown exemplary patriotism, resilience and commitment to their fatherland.
