Nigeria: Two in Court Over Homosexuality

Two men Tuesday appeared before an Abuja magistrates' court for allegedly practicing homosexuality.

Police prosecutor told the court that Peter Musa, who lives at Tudun Wada village, reported that on October 7, 2007, he and other members of a vigilante group caught Augustine Osagie and John Otim having unlawful sexual intercourse with each other.

The report, he said, was made at the Lugbe police Station.

Narrating his ordeal in court, one of the accused persons, John said Augustine stopped him while he was on his way home and informed him that he was sent by God to him.

"He tricked me to follow him to a secluded place and instructed me to pull off my clothes and lie down on the ground," he said.

John disclosed further that he was shocked when he saw Augustine pulling his trouser down and having sex with him through his anus.

He said due to his uncooperative attitude, Augustine released his semen on his body and that after the act; they both struggled until he drove Augustine off.

"The chairman of the vigilante group apprehended us and handed us over to the police," he said.

The prosecutor asked for an adjournment while John was granted bail by the court.
