Liberia: President's Leadership Brings Closer U.S. Relations

Washington, DC — As President Bush prepares to meet with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the White House, a senior State Department official expressed U.S. confidence in her leadership and continued American support for Liberia's recovery from its destructive civil war.

President Sirleaf, the first democratically elected female head of state in Africa, is visiting Washington October 18 for discussions with Bush and will give the keynote address at a fundraising dinner for Africare, a nonprofit organization that specializes in aid to Africa.
