Scarce parking space has led Douala inhabitants to occupy roadsides with their vehicles.
In the past when vehicles are parked poorly such that circulation is obstructed, the Douala City Council would impound such vehicles and the owners would have to pay the sum of about CFA5000 before the vehicles are released. Unfortunately, the vehicle which often impounded poorly packed cars was burnt by the population. With the growing number of people in Douala, there has also been an increase in vehicles and the parking lodges have become limited.
