Luanda — United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative to Angola, André Mayouya, considered as positive the results of the implementation of the 5th programme of cooperation with Angolan Government.
According to a note that reached ANGOP, the conclusion followed a workshop with Government partners held on October 15-17, attended by representatives of the Ministries of Planning, Health, Education and Family and Women Promotion.
On the occasion, UNEFPA representative highlighted the importance of the Government's involvement in all aspects of the said programme and in the drafting of the next one.
The next programme is intended to contribute for the process of reconstruction and reduction of poverty, through the promotion of health, reproductive rights, improved access to information and services of reproductive health.
The reduction of HIV/Aids prevalence, maternal death rate, gender inequality and improved equilibrium between demographic growth and resources are part of the project.
Among other topics, the workshop tackled such other matters as UN reforms, importance of human rights and gender in the process of planning and management based on results and the UN framework for assistance to development.
The topics were presented by specialists from South Africa and Mozambique.
UNFPA is an international development agency that promotes the right of women, men and children to enjoy a healthy life and opportunity equality.
It has been cooperating with Angolan since 1987 and its action assists countries with the utilisation of data for policies and poverty reduction programmes.
Two million US Dollars have so far been spent in the 5th programme of cooperation.
