Accra — BENIN has blamed South Africa for allowing Zambia to sneak in the 26th edition of the MTN Africa Nations Cup finals to be held in here from January 20 to February 10.
Benin Football Federation President Moucharafou Anjorin, also the first vice president of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) told Daily Monitor at Coconut Groove Regency Hotel that the Bafana Bafana threw away a match.
"Uganda Cranes and Benin's Squirrels were destined to be here for Ghana 2008. For us we did our part but Uganda was undone by South Africa," Anjorin said. "Our victory will be Uganda's victory. It was God's wish for Benin to play in the finals. You could see that South Africa and Benin both the same points and goal difference."
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) executive committee which sat at Alisa Hotel has banned Togo's National Stadium indefinitely following the pitch invasion by fans after the home side was beaten 2-0 by Mali in the penultimate qualfier.
Malian players were assaulted by fans.
"The stadium is banned but further action will be decided by the Caf Disciplinary Board at a later date," Suleiman Habuba Caf Director of Communication told Daily Monitor.
Draws for the Ghana 2008 finals were held late yesterday.
