Nigeria: Unizik Appoints 18 New Professors

Onitsha — The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has announced the appointment of 18 new professors, bringing to 90, the number of professors in the university.

According to Emmanuel Ojukwu, head, Public relations, communication and marketing, the appointment was sequel to the approval by the appointment and promotions committee (Academic Staff) which held September 18, 2007, and was ratified by the Governing Council of the institution.

A break down of the professors showed that Medicine got the highest with five professors. They are Dr. Alexander Nwakor (surgery) Dr. Ifeoma Egbonu (pediatrics), Dr. C.C. Ezechukwu (pediatrics), Dr. P.I.S. Okafor (surgery) and Dr. J.I. Mbanugo parasitology and entomology.

Faculty of Arts also has five new professors which include Dr. Daniel Agu (Music), Dr. Rems Umeasigbu (English language and Literature), Dr. F. Maduabuchi Dukor (Philosophy), Dr. Onyekaonwu G.O. (African and Asian Studies) and late Dr. Ezenwa Ohaeto (English language and Literature).

Others are Dr. M.N.C. Ijeoma (Met/Mat), Dr. Oby C.N. Okonkwo, (Health and Physical Education, Dr. M.N Umego (Geo physics) Dr. Chibuzo Umeh (Microbiology) and Dr. P.A. Okoye, Industrial Chemistry.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ilochi Okafor, who congratulated the new professors, challenged them to work hard to always put the University ahead of its contemporaries.
