Uganda: Fifty to Graduate At Pentecostal University

Kabarole — A total of 50 students will on Friday graduate at the Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) in Fort Portal, Kabarole District, the University Academic Registrar, Prof. Samson J. Opolot said.

This is the university's second graduation after opening in 2003. Prof. Opolot said the graduation would be unique because it comes at a time when UPU has been fully accredited to the Law Development Centre (LDC). It will be the first time the university awards an honorary doctorate.

Prof. Opolot while talking to journalists at the university campus on Monday, said the honorary Doctorate of Laws in business will be awarded to Ugandan business tycoon, Sudhir Ruparellia.

"As a young university, we feel that the award of a honorary doctorate is a unique thing and giving it to Mr Ruparellia is the right thing to do," he said. He said Mr Ruparellia had been chosen for the Doctorate award because of his outstanding business services in Uganda, his investment in education and the promotion of multiculturalism.

The LDC accreditation was done after the Uganda Law Council inspected the university in August. It was discovered that UPC qualifies to send its fourth year students to LDC for the bar training course.

According to Prof. Opolot, the faculty of Law takes 60 per cent of the university's intake.
