Freetown — The Nigerian coach who recently visited Sierra Leone, James Peters, has given the national team, Leone Stars a tip to qualify for the group stages of the 2010 World Cup qualification.
Peters said over the weekend that for Leone Stars to succeed in Guinea Bissau, they must not play much of defensive game.
About the much-talked about match, Peters said: "Playing a crucial away match like this, you don't have to defend throughout the match. You must play a little bit of open game to allow the home side to keep playing. With this, you can create few chances and score a goal," Peters said adding that this approach can cause a lot of pressure on the opponent.
The Nigerian class 'A' coach further revealed that he has succeeded on several occasions at national and club levels with this style of play. "I have eliminated the likes of Ghana and Togo on their home soils and even African club teams with this style," he said.
Coach Peters who was sent by the president-elect of West Africa Football Union (WAFU), Amos Adamu, was supposed to take charge of the national team for both the Benin and Guinea Bissau encounter but he claimed that he did not receive any formal appointment from the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to that effect.
