Angola: Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Identify Cooperation Areas

25 October 2007

Luanda — A delegation of Vietnamese businessmen led by the that country's deputy minister of Industry and Trade, Le Duong Quang, arrived in Luanda this Thursday for a five-day visit meant to identify possible areas for bilateral cooperation.

The Vietnamese ambassador to Angola, Nguyen Dinh, who received his country's 20-man delegation at "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport, said that his compatriots will learn on the capacities of the Angolan market in various sectors, namely on tourism, textile industry, food, plastic, building materials and bicycles and motorcycles assembling plants.

According to the diplomat, the visiting delegation will also attend a workshop designed for Vietnamese and Angolan businesspeople, in which a trade cooperation accord between the two States will be signed.

Vietnamese exports to Angola, in 2006, reached at USD 70 million, whereas this year it already stood between 80 and 90 million dollars, stressed Nguyen Dinh, who pointed out textile, foodstuffs, rice, shoes, farming machines, bicycles and motorcycles, as the main products his country exports to Angola.

"Vietnam intends to reverse this situation, bringing importation to an end and embarking on the construction of factories for building materials, computers, TV sets, bicycles and motorcycles", emphasized the diplomat.

Political relations between the two countries dates back to November 1975, and were strengthened in 1985 with the arrival in Angola of Vietnamese physicians, lecturers and experts for the farming and financial sectors.

The visiting delegation is expected to return home next Monday.
