The Eritrean Cabinet of Ministers and Regional Administrators held a meeting here today.

The meeting held in-depth deliberations on the prevailing political, economic, social and administrative situation in the country. It also included extensive discussions on the on-going development programs in all parts of the country, especially in remote areas, aimed at ensuring equitable economic progress and creating equal opportunities for citizens, and their overall impact in improving the people's standard of living and the GDP.

The meeting reviewed the accomplishments registered so far in efforts to achieve food security vis-à-vis the national agricultural development strategy, which is being given top priority. Noting the major contributions of agricultural infrastructure works, soil and water conservation activities underway through substantial government expenditure, and the dedicated endeavors of the people and members of the Defense Force, it also discussed the promising prospect for the development of irrigation farming.

Moreover, the meeting of the Ministerial Cabinet and Regional Administrators considered the progress made in efforts to establish agro-industrial crops, livestock development, harnessing fishery and maritime resources, and vegetable and fruits development for both domestic and export purposes, as well as future work programs. In this regard, it mapped out a strategy for more gratifying achievements.

Regarding the short and long-term programs to expand infrastructure facilities and ensure the provision of basic social services across the nation, the meeting took note of the fact that although commendable accomplishments have been registered in the domains of education, health, potable water supply and energy, there still remains more tasks to be fulfilled so as to attain the desired goal.

The meeting further reviewed the existing state of affairs as regards to current trade and economic activities, administrative matters, public services, community affairs, management of government and related trading institutions, social services, and the supply of basic commodities, among others. In this connection, it discussed ways and means of alleviating the problems encountered through stepped-up and coordinating endeavors, as well as higher productivity.

The Cabinet of Ministers and Regional Administrators concluded its meeting charting short and long-term action programs and giving work directives to the regional administrations.
