Luanda — Morocco and Eritrea have confirmed their participation at the 1997 edition of the end-of-year race named "Saint Sylvester", bringing to five the number of countries that are already enlisted for this competition, ANGOP has learnt.

According to the secretary-general of the Angolan Athletics Federation (FAA), Abel Isaac, the other countries are Cape Verde, Mozambique and Zambia.

Invited to participate in the 52nd edition of this competition are also South Africa, Botswana, Ethiopia, Spain, Namibia, Portugal, Kenya, Sao Tome and Principe, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Speaking on the Angolan runners that will represent the country, he said the federation has not yet mentioned the names, although he has suggested Joaquim Chamane and Ernestina Paulino, in males and females categories, respectively.

The last edition was won by the Ethiopians Ambesse Tolossa and Debele Beharne Adere, in men and ladies categories.
