Namibia: PWC Win Squash Business League

Wndhoek — PriceWaterHouseCoopers were the overall winners of the 2007 Squash Business League, which was recently completed.

The League, which ran over several months, wrapped up with a dinner function that rewarded those who worked hard as well as those who had the most fun. The evening was held at the Wanderers Sports Club two weeks ago and saw PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) walk away as overall winners of the league.

Gerdus Louwrens, the Namibian Squash Association chairman, got the evening underway by thanking the players who took part for their continued support and commitment to the game of squash. The league featured seven teams with a total of 131 players, of which 95 were men and 46 women. PriceWaterhouseCoopers won the league with 301 points, followed by the Squash Academy and Trustco, who shared second place on 259 points. Dimension Data came third on 214, followed by Road Signs on 208, Super Sport on 188 and Legal Shield on 163 points. The Squash Academy, the defending champions, came second on a head-to-head basis after tying with Trustco, a new team on the block. It was mainly an evening of laughter and fun with a wide array of prizes for players who played all their games, most games, most committed lady supporter and best rookie, to name but a few.

The Most Valuable Player award went to John Lingashi of Squash Academy in the men's section and Nancy Fernandes in the women's section, also of Squash Academy. The night wrapped up with Trustco Group Managing Director Quinton Van Rooyen saying a few words on behalf of Trustco, which has been the sponsor of the League for the past three years.

The good news of the evening was his announcement that Trustco would be sponsoring the League again next year. The night finished with a buffet meal.
