Bujumbura — Talks between the head of state and opposition parties are now endangered by some setbacks after the President has been relying upon the first Vice-President of the Republic, Dr Martin Nduwimana.

The leader of Uprona, Aloys Rubuka sent a letter to the Head of State today, indicating that although talks are still ongoing, there is a certain reluctance on the president's part.

Rubuka stresses that there has been little progress and protests against Dr Martin Nduwimana's visit to the main office of Uprona that was to happen today. The interior ministry has been interfering with the activities of the leader of Uprona and his assosciates after Nduwimana was dismissed from the party.

His dismissal led to a demonstration by Uprona MPs before the office of the interior minister, General Evariste Ndayishimiye, temporarily paralyzing activities in the national assembly.

These setbacks are announced a month after the President indicated that he would reach an agreement with Uprona which has been prone to factionalism.

In the meantime, two separate camps have arisen within the Frodebu party after some members loyal to the former President of Frodebu, Dr Jean Minani, demanded to be represented in the government.
