Lagos — Former Super Eagles midfielder and Nations Cup winner, Henry Nwosu said Mali may be Nigeria's undoing in the group B of the 2008 Nations Cup starting in January.
The Eagles are in the same group with Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Benin Republic, but Nwosu still insists Nigeria will top the Group ahead of Mali and the Ivory Coast while picking Mali as a tough nut to crack in the competition.
"I see Nigeria surviving this group and moving to the second round and could be joined by either Mali or Ivory Coast but I believe Nigeria will come out tops in the group at the end.
"We should expect Mali to pose the biggest threat to Nigeria's ambition in Group B. It is not that Ivory Coast is not a strong side too, but it is because we (Nigeria) know most of the Ivorian players especially the ones doing well abroad and they know our players too. But we don't know most of the Malian players.
"We only know a few of them playing well in Europe and as a result we must be very careful about them. We should not also forget in a hurry how they spanked Togo 2-0 right there in Lome to stop Togo from qualifying for the Nations Cup," Nwosu reportedly said.
He, however, urge the team handler, Vogts to ensure that peace, love and togetherness reigns supreme in the team in order to perform well in the competition.
"I will advise Berti Vogts and the NFA to make sure that the players are in high spirits and also to ensure that peace and unity reign supreme in the team. Vogts and the FA should also guide against any form of rancor in the team too," Nwosu said
