Lagos — A recent United Nations report has confirmed Nigeria as having the 2nd highest number of Maternal Mortality Ratio in the world after India.

The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is the number of maternal deaths during a given period per 100,000 live births. In Nigeria, this ratio is unacceptably high, ranging from 800 to 1, 500 per 100,000 live births. It is estimated that 15% of pregnancies experience complications world wide.
