Kitante — MTN Uganda has yet again come out strongly to support sports development by unveiling a lucrative 3-year backing of Uganda Golf Club (UGC)'s Monthly Mugs competition.
The competition will now officially be called the 'MTN Monthly Mug' after the announcement, estimated to be over Shs500m.
The sponsorship begins with this weekend's Mug that tees off at 8.30 a.m at the par-72 Kitante course.
The monthly mug tournaments will culminate into the 'Mug of Mugs' tournament at the end of each year where several big winners will walk away with other attractive prizes apart from the mugs.
MTN's Head of Marketing Isaac Nsereko remarked, "Sponsoring the historical Monthly Mug offers us a great opportunity to express our appreciation to a special group of customers - the golfers. It is only natural that we would support this great club and tournament as the leading sponsors of sports in Uganda."
UGC secretary Fred Tumuheirwe paid tribute to MTN for taking up the golf mugs event and cried out to the public to come and watch, learn and play golf.
"We expect about 200 golfers this Saturday to compete in six different handicap categories. Play will be under the medal format and several national team stars and guest players like Stephen 'Tiger Woods' Birungi and George Olayo are expected to play," added Tumuheirwe.
There will be two winners per category and 12 overall winners in every competition.
