Nigeria: FG to Make IT Education Compulsory for Schools

Lagos — In a bid to actualise the vision 2020 initiative geared at making Nigeria one of the top 20 economies of the world, the Federal Government will by early 2008 make Information Technology (IT) education compulsory for primary and secondary schools in the country.

Disclosing this to THISDAY at the launch of computer science for primary and junior secondary school levels at a two-day annual information technology professional assembly 2007 themed: "Mobilising IT Professionals for Vision 2020", organised by Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) in Abuja recently, Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council ( NERDC), Prof. Godswill Obioma stated that all is set to make the IT subject compulsory at primary, junior and secondary school levels early next year.
