The demand for fish meat is growing in all the urban centers of the country thanks to its distribution at fair price, according to Mr. Temesgen Hagos, manager of the Eritrean Marine Products Company.

He stated that fish meat is being supplied to even the remote towns of Tessenei and Senafe at a fair price and that fish products are making due contribution in achieving and ensuring food security.

Reports indicated that a kilo of fish is currently being sold at 35 Nakfa and that the demand of the people is growing from time to time. To meet the demand of the public, fish market places have already been opened in Dubarwa and Adi-Quala and preparations are being made to open similar facilities in Tessenei, Dekemhare and Mendefera.

The Eritrean Marine Products Company which operates under the National Fisheries Corporation was established in 1995. It supplies fish products for local consumption and export purposes, namely to Europe and the Middle East.
