Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana on Friday accepted an official invitation to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of improving working relations between his Ministry and that of the DRC.
The invitation was extended by DRC Labour Minister Mary-Ang Lukiana during their meeting at Minister Mdladlana's office.
Minister Lukiana is part of a delegation of the DRC's ruling party, the People's Party for Reconciliation and Democracy, which is being hosted by its South African counterpart, the African National Congress.
Issues that the two ministers discussed included the sharing of experiences and expertise on matters such as youth unemployment, skills development, the Expanded Public Works Programme and poverty alleviation.
Minister Mdladlana said meeting his DRC counterpart would be beneficial for all the people of the two countries.
"It is quite critical that we meet, given the fact that the Presidents of our two countries have already done so," he said.
After the meeting, Minister Lukiana proceeded to visit other Labour Department's programmes, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), Compensation Fund and Umsobomvu Youth Fund.
Recently, South Africa and the DRC signed agreements of co-operation in the fields of health and transport, amongst many others.

At that time, South Africa agreed to finance several projects in the country including the construction of a new ultramodern terminal at Kinshasa's N'Djili International Airport and a deep sea port at Banana, on the Atlantic coast.
Also, South Africa was heavily involved in post conflict reconstruction and development in the DRC, and was one of the key players in fostering the DRC's first democratic election held just over a year ago, on 30 July 2006.
South African organisations printed the ballots, distributed them across the vast, resource rich nation and assisted with Information and Communication Technology support for the monitoring and counting process.
