Kampala — THE Uganda Human Rights Commission has asked the Government to pay sh50m to two victims of UPDF torture in Gulu and Lira district. Levi Ebong's son, Robson Akona, was on September 21 tortured to death by soldiers for being in illegal possession of an unlicenced gun.
A post mortem report revealed that Akona died of internal bleeding resulting from the beating.
Commissioner Omara Aliro directed that Akona's widow, Sarah and their two children gets sh25m, while Ebong gets sh5.2m for violations on his family and loss of property.
Richard Ojok, a cobbler at Akurukwee trading centre in Gulu was on September 15 beaten by two soldiers and shot in the leg before being abandoned by the roadside. He was admitted at Lacor Hospital for over a month.
Aliro also directed that that Ojok be paid sh20m in compensation.
